As part of the lender documents, many loan packages include the
USA Patriot Act Information Form, which requires two forms of ID. The form typically includes the following instruction, which is a LENDER requirement:

COMPLETE A SEPARATE FORM FOR EACH BORROWER.
Two forms of Verification are required.

Various form of ID may be accepted; a list of acceptable forms of verification is conveniently listed on the USA Patriot Act Information Form:

State Issued Driver License
State Issued ID Card
Military ID Card
Passport
US Alien Registration Card
Canadian Driver License
Social Security Card U.S. Govt
Government Issued Visa
Non-US/Canadian Driver License
Most Recent Signed Tax Returns - Fed State TIN
Property Tax Bill APN:
Voter Registration Card
Organizational Membership Card
Bank/Investment/Loan Statements
Paycheck stub with name1
Most Recent W-2
Home/car/renter insurance papers
Recent utility bill

To notarize other documents, i.e., Deed of Trust, Grant Deed, Modification Agreement, Affidavit of Occupancy, Signature/Name Affidavit, Limited Power of Attorney, Compliance Agreement,
Affidavit in Lieu of Survey/Affidavit of No New Improvements,
Authorization to Wire Funds, Identification Letter – Borrowers,
Notice to Mortgagor, Owners' Affidavit, Marriage and Homestead and Same Name Affidavit, etc., follow your state-specific requirements for identification.

Most states require one form of identification for notarization.
