In California, Drivers Licenses, which are signed by the licensee, are issued for five years. That's a pretty good solid measure of how the client signs their name. I always match the ID signature with the signature I capture in my journal, and I'm good to go pretty much 100% of the time.
Right on, I wouldn't have time to step into the recorders archive room and pull these up. Too time consuming. Most people around here have refi'd a number of times in the past five years, since interest rates have been so low.
The banks who are the pickiest are modification lenders.
Wells Fargo isn't picky at all. They don't usually ask for copies of photo ids. Don't forget, they have all the previously signed disclosures to match signatures as well.
