If by 'contacting customer" you mean the borrower...don't.
They've already paid your fee and you should not be going back to them for anything. Study your confirmation, get info off the CD about the title company, and google research everything...the borrower should not be bothered with this matter.
Not to mention...if this IS just a simple oversight on WFG's part, if they find out you contacted the borrower you could lose a potential good client.
