"Not only that but those who are overlooking the fact that it has been some GOP leaders who have been willing to hold Trump and his administration accountable, as far as they can at this point, might I ask, where were your calls for Dems to hold Obama accountable for just about anything?"
Chris, please. This argument, "well, Obama did it, so why is it wrong if Trump does it?" is a GOP ploy to deflect attention from what's going on and doesn't hold water.
In the first place, there are no GOP leaders willing to hold Trump accountable yet - both Ryan, McConnell, and their deputies are lukewarm at best, and those who HAVE spoken out are "troubled" by it, but don't offer a solution. Two members of the GOP rank-and-file have mentioned the possibility of Impeachment; one of them, Justin Amash (sp?) seems have to backed off his statements. The GOP is still basically circling the wagons around Trump.
Second - the GOP held the majority in both Houses during Obama's second term - where was THEIR effort to hold him accountable for anything they thought he did wrong? They hated him so much, and they had the power to impeach him. Yet they did nothing, and you're blaming the Dems for not calling him out?
Third - Obama is no longer President, and to keep throwing his administration up as an excuse for what the Trump administration is doing is disingenuous at best. Yes, a lot of folks - myself included - made comparisons to Bush and Obama in the early years, but that was usually only to show how the problems Obama was facing were caused by the Bush administration.
That's very different from what as going on now - as I recall, Obama was never accused of collusion with a foreign government, never blurted out highly confidential information to an enemy in the Oval Office, never excluded US press but allowed foreign press to cover a meeting with the enemy in the Oval Office (or even invited an enemy representative into the Oval Office), actually vetted the people he hired and was never forced to fire an appointed official a couple weeks into his service (although he DID fire Flynn in 2014 for incompetence - and three years later, the Trump team is pointing the finger at Obama for not vetting him properly, as if they had no need to do so)...
So if you want to compare the two administrations, compare apples to apples. This "look at what Obama did" is a bogus argument intended to divert attention from how incompetent - and possibly corrupt - the Trump administration has been since before he was inaugurated.
