WAPO is reporting that a woman apparently connected with or working for Project Veritas - the group that tries to covertly record various liberal groups in order to expose them for whatever - attempted to trick two of their reporters by volunteering a story about Roy Moore that wasn't true.
The woman came to them with a tale of how Moore impregnated her when she was just 16 and then insisted she have an abortion. Unfortunately for her, WAPO journalists are real journalists with actual journalistic standards - they checked her background and found that she lied about her work history and when she lived in Alabama. The Project Veritas connection came up when she was spotted by other WAPO reporters entering the offices of Project Veritas in upstate NY, near where she claimed to live. According to the reporters, her car was in the parking lot for over an hour. Project Veritas refused to comment.
It should be noted that when WAPO ran the original story, their reporters were acting on a tip and went out and found those women - the women didn't approach them. Any reputable news source is immediately skeptical of anyone who walks in and offers a story, and they will ALWAYS perform due diligence before publishing - as opposed to sites like Breitbart, Infowars, and Gateway Pundit that will publish any rumor or conspiracy theory they come across.
The story was supposed to be on background (source unidentified), but a WAPO editor decided that the agreement no longer applied since the whole thing was a lie - so this afternoon they reported the entire story, including who this woman is and a photo of her meeting with a reporter.
It ain't "fake news" when you do the job the way it's supposed to be done. |
