I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. You're probably right about some kind of infection, but then that's what the doctor should be able to tell you, of course. Please keep us posted!
Also, I'd be careful about what you buy from a health food store. Since supplements of all kinds are unregulated, you don't know what you're getting from many brands. Tests have been done of contents of various products on health food stores shelves and they were pretty shocking. Some products contained absolutely none of the key ingredient(s) listed on the labels, some contained other additives that were not listed on the labels... (Like maybe high levels of caffeine, fillers, etc.) With others, the potency was very inconsistent.
