Dogs that are outside quite a bit will probably dig. Mine was a house dog, and when let out in the yard and attempted to dig by the patio, he got the squirt gun to the face and a stern "no" right away. He quit digging. You also have to cover it up as soon as it starts. It's cute, but if you accept it, it's way harder to break the habit. It's all about keeping an eye on them, however if your dog spends the majority of their time outside likes Cheryl's do, there is not much you can do, they dig for any number of reasons, the nature of them.
Hugh's sound like a hoot! An epic story of "find the bone". lol
