Attn WI Notaries
I got the following statement from my State Rep's Assistant
"As you may know, Rep. Shilling voted to keep the Secretary of State’s Office as is when it came before her on the Joint Finance Committee. Unfortunately, the majority party approved moving the duties to other departments."
This would be the Dept of Finance I believe. If your commissions are due for renewal soon, take this into account.
Thank God I got mine renewed this month!

"ff the Governor’s Biennial Budget recommendations for the Office of the Secretary of State are approved, the Notaries and Trademark programs would potentially be transferred out of this Office as soon as July 1, 2011. However, at this time, no one knows exactly when the Budget will be approved nor the precise effective date of the changes. So, we can only estimate that the changes will occur sometime on or after July 1.
This Office has not been informed as to how the transition of the Notary and Trademark programs to the Department of Financial Institutions will actually occur, nor do we know who the contacts at DFI will be."
