Employees at notary offices strike to get paid

FIRST OFF - this is a story about international notaries. Working for the government. So I have no idea how many employees at these offices actually have what we would think of as notary duties, or if those duties even remotely resemble the notary duties here in the states. But the title as it was presented just stuck me as an article to read.

found some other info about their "role" as a notary...

<<Notaries in the Kingdom are officials appointed by the Ministry of Justice to authenticate documents such as land deeds, marriage certificates and contracts.

There were 372 notaries working in 129 notary public offices in the Kingdom, according to figures published in 2007.>>

Notaries in these foreign countries get so much more respect for the roles they play...where the heck is OUR respect??

Inspiring though...

Think what would happen if every notary in this country went on strike for whatever reason (higher notary fees, law reform, etc.).

Talk about completely shutting down the court system and real estate market.

Puts into perspective how important notaries really are - Egyptian or otherwise.

Re: Inspiring though...

I found it interesting that they were striking for the monthly bonuses which "constitute 400 percent of their base salaries".

That's some bonus. Makes one wonder what their base is, especially considering their "livelihood depends mainly on their bonuses".

"The employees threatened to stop issuing key documents for judicial purposes, parliamentary and presidential candidates, and the establishment of new political parties. He warned this would paralyze all state institutions."

Sounds like their responsibilities do go way beyond what a US notary does. The biggest clue was "issuing..."
