Rash of new notaries lately...ever notice

they post once and never again? Not even to say thanks to the 20 or more who took the time to respond.

And Marilyn stated recently and I'm going to echo her sentiments....When did NR become another FaceBook??

Oh, yeah....noticed. Also notice that when anyone asks why they decided to become a Notary, they never answer.

My take on this is that it's just someone trolling - the one post usually starts an avalanche of replies (most of which are predictable), and the OP never comes back.

Nice to see your post Mike.....I agree with you. Maybe I'll make a commitment to not respond to a post that mirrors others from the past. Just watch what the newer members of the forum post. That way I won't become "old guard"! LOL

""Just watch what the newer members of the forum post."

That provides a certain level of amusement behind the scenes as well.

Occasionally, I'll see a post I identify as from a troll...

...but by and large I think the still wet-behind-the-ears greenhorn neophyte tyro novice rookie posts we see here are genuine. They disappear from the message board, I think, because it generally takes only one post to ascertain that many here hold them in some disdain. Certainly, if one of my posts is amongst the responses there is an excellent chance they will get that idea.

Some, I hope, continue to hang around, absorbing the wisdom and experience if not the bad habits and surly dispositions of the veteran posters. And for any who indeed continue to hang around, I commend you, and hope your experience has demonstrated why newcomers are often met with just a tad bit of hostility.

Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go bite the heads off some tiny baby rabbits.

There aren't very many new notaries in Calif

The number of CA notaries is in a "free fall". We had approx. 184,000 at the end of 2010 and now we have approx. 170,000.

We have lost almost 135,000 notaries in the last 3 years. If this trend continues we will probably have 160,000 notaries at the end of the year and who knows how few we will have at the end of 2012.

Many of the students in class are there because of an employer (and the employer is not from the mortgage industry) and very few are interested in being a loan signer.

The other students are there to become notaries at a tax business, insurance, postal stores/etc.

Thanks for the boots-on-the-ground-report, Joan. The

Board is full of new inquiries - landing here on NR, I would imagine, by virtue of its very name: Notary Rotary - that peked their interests as new Notaries.

Re: There aren't very many new notaries in Calif

I got my first commission six-plus years ago, when the Regional VP of the Postal Service was trying to establish notaries in the larger post offices as a means of increasing revenue. After I received my commission, USPS HQ legal division killed the whole idea, but I kept my commission. After I retired I opened a postal store and finally put my commission to use 2-1/2 years ago. I guess I fall in that category of students who are there because of our employer.
