Square Credit Card Reader
I just signed up for the iPhone credit card reader. Does anyone have any experience using this new electronic device?

I'm concerned about the security issues with these. How do you know the credit card info. is protected?

But this is through wireless cell phone connections. I've
heard that both I-phones and Android phones can be "audited".

The apps that allow you to take credit card payments are not just some "free app" someone created for general use. You actually set up a mobile merchant account, they have to qualify you for the account (credit check) and the credit card companies allow you to swipe payments, just like any other merchant. I am using GoPayment from Intuit. I am pretty sure that Square works the same way. I sure hope that all the proper checks and balances are in place so that data cannot be stolen via the airwaves. I would be very shocked to learn that the companies involved (Intuit, Apple, Google, Amex, Visa, etc.) would not take measures to ensure that the data is properly encrypted.

Thank you Sheila. To all of the others that asked questions, I don't know. I am trusting that a NR person can help. Since it is an Apple approved apt I want to feel the security has been tested. Apple has a high quality name and do not want anyone to tread on it.

I use Square and really like it. I do a lot of freelance writing and one of my "beats" is Fintech companies. I learned about Square early in their startup phase and they were fun to watch.
I also actually made a purchase with Square for the first time--over the weekend at a graduation, I purchased some flowers for the graduate, and paid via Square. Quick and easy!!
