WOW, Heres one!
I get a confirmation email from title company late last night for a closing on next Tuesday . I call the borrower And instantly she starts yelling at me!!! Explaining to me that she was never informed of a signing and that no one has called her to set this up! She said she will only be in FL for a few days and its all business and no pleasure!! She did say she was driving and that a later time that day would be possible. I call the title company they tell me to set up a time with her and then let them know??? I then call her back she then huffs and asks me to call her back in 30 mins when shes home so she can make sure the time she gave me is OK!!!! Am I just crazy or is the title company suppose to have already talked to the borrowers and set up the signing time? And... we are suppose to be in charge of rescheduling and getting a good time???? It seems to me we as signing agents are expected to do more and more for less and less!!!

Yeah, that's just crazy. I had a very hostile borrower last week who went off on me from the confirmation call, and she ended up refusing to sign the docs for the most piddly reason. They called me for the re-sign a few days later but I politely told them no thank you. I was not going to subject myself to her vileness again.

Sometimes you run into one where the borrower hasn't been notified ahead of time. Makes me wonder, especially when we are urged to contact borrower asap. In my experience it's not uncommon when a time has to be rescheduled with the borrower for the same day it is left up to me to find an agreeable time. If it's a touchy situation like an irate borrower I let the SS handle it. When the day needs to be rescheduled it is left up to the TC because docs have to be redrawn.
When a borrower hasn't been notified about a closing I tell him to contact his LO to get the details. It's a shame they are sometimes left out of the link. And yes, it seems more responsibilty is dumped on the NSA, such as finding mistakes in the docs.

I've never had anyone go off on me like that, but I'm very
aware that my call is often the first indication to the borrower that the signing if going to take place. Some cos. call them in advance, but many don't. I have one today, moved from Thurs. @ 3 pm to Fri. @ 10 am. Of course, the borrower isn't available at 10 am, and it still needs to be 3 pm. That's why we have to go with the flow & be flexible. I'm not so busy now that I can't adjust my schedule. haha

You are not the secretary for title.
More importantly, do you really want to have to be around a woman like that for an entire signing? With that drama queen you know it won't be fast and it won't be easy!

May disagree a little with all the other posts to this point
If I'm reading this right, it sounds like you were dealing directly with a title company and not going through a signing service. If you ARE using a ss, typically someone along the way has already set up the appointment. But if not, then I don't agree that scheduling a time should necessarily be part of the tc job. That's often what a ss does and is one of the ways they justify their cut of the fee, imo. If you're dealing directly with the tc - and charging them accordingly - then I see no reason why they shouldn't expect you to be able to schedule it on your own.
Most closing agents / escrow officers I've dealt with don't want to have to do all the hand-holding that a ss is usually willing to do. They want to be able to turn it over to someone who can just get it done without having to take up lots of their time. This is another reason why I believe that we should charge more when working for title companies. This should be equivalent to the fee that the ss would be getting because, in theory at least, we are doing their part of the job, as well.
However, this is a little hazier than it used to be, though, because everyone in the process is struggling and trying to drive down costs - which the way most of them see it, includes our fees.
BTW, one thing you didn't say was if your confirmation had a designated time stated on it. That could make a difference on how I would handle it. But I've also been in your situation. I just make excuses for them and proceed to find out what would be convenient for the borrower. Frankly, in most cases, I'd rather be the one to schedule the appointment because then I can control it to some extent and manage my time better.
I DO agree that these days we are being asked to do more and more for less and less, but this isn't one of the issues I would be likely to complain about. That's just how I see it.

Amen! Even if signing is thru an SS, no one STILL calls
the BO. THat's just lazy & sloppy! Everyone's counting that commission & sched fee, but infairly dumps all they can on the Notary. Than, like you said we not only are responsible for finding TC's mistakebut dealing with irat BO, who wants picks the SA (the only who hasn't made ANY mistake) to go off on. Then BO is sooo pissed that (I've had this happen), that when trying to get a break on fees actually LIE on the notary! TC's & esp SS's who are always looking for an excuse to .05 & .10 us anyway, then use this as a ploy to cut or not pay SA's fee.
Rather than accept this as .. "oh, well, that's part of our job", I say good riddance to bad rubbish. I absolutely will not go into a situation that reeks of hostility. In 2007, I had BO's rob me of my docs (this was a re-sign frm 3 days prior) & hold me HOSTAGE & had to call 911 for a police escort. TC lied & said they'd sent me docs 45 min. prior instead of admitting they were late w/ docs. BO actually told police I "was in cahoots w/ title". BO had atty look docs over the next day & over-nited pkg back themselves. 2 wks later (same SS), BO was goin' bi-polar on me (daytime; 1 BO), so I got the H3LL out of dodge, Oh, yeah, SS gave me an extra $25 for being held hostage!
There are some NUTS out here & sometimesya just gotta say NO!!!

Hmmmm...I've never had a borrower who liked me well enough to want to keep me around, much less hold me hostage.
