Warning - this is a vent ! Ok, so I had a 10 am signing
2day. Left @ 9am 2 get there, esp. w/ our rush hr & all. Got lost, called BO & still made it 5 min later. Nice closing, bid Daisy (dog) adieu,: had to go back home just for fax-backs. They weren't included on confirm, but good client & small pkg - did as a courtesy (there've been several surprise faxes recently, but I'm TRYING to be somewhat accommodating even tho' this is an extra trip). While checking my emails (during faxing), I see an email sent @ 9:15 (remember I left @ 9am)!!!! With a few extra docs!!!! Oh, and the mssg that shes's still waiting on more!!! No phone call - it's almost 12:30 & still no docs. I replied back to her email that signing was completed @ 10: am & to contact SS. If I hadn't had to do faxes, this baby would have bene LONG GONE!
I must have a sign on me (that can be read fron across the whole US of A) that says: appt time____ - whatever I have no schedule - I'm at your beck & call 'til whenever!!! Say what???? Don't even know if BO is still available - he's moving - get this - TODAY!
Ahem - we ALL know 'how this business is', but isn't this just a TAD unprofessional??? SMH!

Yes, unprofessional and my invoice would reflect additional fees for the extra trips and I would demand confirmation of the additional fees before going out again.

That is so rude and uncalled for.
If docs aren't ready, they should just say so - upfront.
Absolutely, ditto on nunu's comments.

Oh, there WILL be an extra trip fee - no doubt! My whole
day is now up in the air! It's 2pm & internet svce is down in this area, so I don't know if new docs have been sent b/c even tho' they're pretty adept at emailing, they haven't quite gotten the hang of making a simple telephone call! Guess I'll just wave my little trusty notary wand & magically add the now 2+ hrs needed for the new trip (if there's even going to be one), making sure that BO has time to halt his moving process...oh yeah - & still make drop off for today! 'Cause I'm not just your average notary - I'm Super Notary: - able to leap rush hour traffic in a single bound - faster & still more accurate than than those $40 -$50 notaries. - and who, disguised as a mild mannered hardworking, ridiculously underpaid SA, can magically accommodate a last minute change in plans w/o notification & still make DROPOFF!
Look - up in the sky - it's Super No - oops - still waitng on docs or a word from SOMEONE! Sigh - oh well...!

I don't lie to borrowers. Often, they can call their LOs
and rattle chains to get those docs rolling.
Other times, we just commiserate on "the powers that be," and the ongoing hassles the borrowers have endured.
Bottom line - I tell borrowers that I'll call when I get docs, and we'll adjust appointment time to accomodate everyone's schedules. I've long held that people can deal with almost anything - as long as they know what the real-meal-deal is.
An old saying: If you don't lie, you don't have to remember what you said.
My .25 cents.

I have the same MO - I don't lie, I don't fudge and I don't CYA - you deal with your borrower and don't throw me under the bus in the process. It is respect and courtesy - I give it and I expect and demand it in return.

Clarification: It's the TC NOT the SS. Docs came straight
from TC - SS unaware of these shenanigans until I contacted them.

Re: Clarification: It's the TC NOT the SS. Docs came straight
I dont care how good a client it is(....several surprise fax backs lately, you said...)I would not do it without compensation. How can the TC expect the signing service or the notary to absorb additional costs over and over again?

The SS generally pays decent fees - nothing to write home
about for sure & pay on time (REALLY good in this dept). These suprise faxbacks have been pretty small, but require an extra trip, esp if being dropped that day. I do live near a dropoff, so I've cut them a smidgeon of slack, but will not continue. Sometimes you try to not .05 & .10 them (although we KNOW the reverse isn't true). Meanwhile, I have let them know about the 'surprises' (I've always charged for the others).

Sorry, HrdwrkrVA, but from your posts I often wonder why
you're in this biz? It is a tough biz, to be sure, but it seems that you have more than the usual amt. of problems with the cos. you're dealing with. Way too much drama for me. :-)

Tc emails more docs after I already left for appt -no call -
no heads up - nothing - hmmm... how does their unprofessionalism reflect on me???? That's REALLY starnge for another notary to 'throw the notary under the bus' for a TC's mistake. Are you SURE you're not from a TC????? Verrrry interesting!

Re: Tc emails more docs after I already left for appt -no call -
No, it was not my intent to throw you under the bus. I was simply referring the to tone of many of your posts--problems with tc's, ss's, collections, etc. on an almost daily basis. Only you can decide if those posts are professional. Remember that many tc's & ss read this forum & rate a notary based on some of their remarks. Just a heads up.

Collections complaints were my response to an SA asking/
lamenting about a particular TC/SS. Thanks to discovering NotRot some yrs ago, those are non-issues these days! I'll continue to vent & comiserate b/c everyone will have similar issues even w/ the best of cos ('cept a verrry few). Show me an SA w/ NO issues & I'll show you someone who's died & gone to Notary Heaven!

Got a feeling she was referring to HrdwrkrVA having to be Superman (or Superwoman) after reading the original post. Some companies do expect you to be Superman (or Superwoman)

Easy solution - while you're negotiating the deal, email and fax the hiring party a fee schedule. ***If the job discussed is different from the actual job received, the fee schedule would apply***, therefore, no surprise faxes, no surprise emails, no surprises PERIOD!
If you continue to operate your business in the same manner, you'll get the same results. If you want different results, do something different than you've been doing. If you're not willing to do something different, then don't vent, whine, or complain.
