I couldn't open National Link docs. Turned on Firefox. They opened immediately. Couldn't open First Preference docs. Turned off Firefox. They opened immediately.
Whatever happened to user friendly??

Solution
Go to "Tools", then "Advanced", then "Network" and clear your cache every now and again. You can also increase the size of your cache. Also make sure the box "Override automatic cache management" is NOT checked. That should do it.
Whenever it acts funny, to this first. Will probably clear things up.

Re: Solution - and another Firefox / Skype question
Glenn, what kind of info is stored in the cache? I'm wondering if do that if I will miss any of the info stored there.. Thanks.
Also, I have another question from a non-techie, while we're talking about Firefox. When I logged on today, I got a couple of windows from Firefox. One was a page of "block-listed add-ons" and the other said that 1 new add-on, "Skype extension for Firefox", has been installed, with a button to click to enable it. Here's what one entry about Skype said on the block-listed page:
"Skype extension, versions below 5.2.0.7165 for Firefox. Reason: high volume of crashes and severe performance issues. Please update to the latest version. For more information, please read our announcement."
The "update to the latest version" was a hyperlink, as was "read our announcement". The latter went to this page: http://blog.mozilla.com/addons/2011/01/20/blocking-the-skype-toolbar-in-firefox/ (I hope this link works...)
This is all just a little over my head and sounds a bit contradictory. The link to update to the latest version goes to Skype. And many of the comments about this Skype add-on are saying that even if they disable it (which I have no idea how to do), it automatically re-enables itself!
Has anyone else seen this? (BTW, I'm still on version 3.6.17 of Firefox because of all the slow-down comments I've read about here.) I'm scratching my head over this - especially because I need to keep Skype enabled for personal and business use.
Thank goodness for all of you experts out there!!

Re: Solution - and another Firefox / Skype question
The cache is use to store copies of webpages offline to so the browser will load those pages faster when you want to go to them.
I don't use skype, however, I am an advocate of keeping all your programs up to date all the time. I have not experienced any slow problems on any of my computers with Firefox, except with one update, and that was fixed later. Those updates are to fix security and operational issues and will eventually catch up with you if you don't keep up to date. That appears to be what has happened to you. Get everything up to date, make sure you have virus scanned and scanned with a program such as Spybot or Malwarebytes.
You are just running in circles and wasting a lot of time if you are trying to trouble shoot issues without your programs having all the security fixes up to date.
That's just my honest opinion.

Re: Solution
Thank you for your solution. But, I am a computer novice. Where do I go to Tools?
I know it is a dumb question but not to me.

Happy to help
***Where do I go to Tools?***
No problem. You'll find lots of simple tools on NotRot. Just look for any posters complaining that they have been stiffed by Pacific Documents or SOX.
