hp printers
i have a question for the people that own a hp printer, does anyone have this problem and is there a way to fix this. I have a hp dual tray 4050 t printer and I notice when I print a page may come out then there is a long pause and then maybe 2 or 3 pages will come out the next time. I have a brother laser printer and it always prints out consistently with no pauses. It is very frustrating because if I have a package that has 120 pages it will take for ever to print out.
Has anyone else experienced this or know why it happens. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

If you are using the pcl6 driver, download the pcl5 driver and it might take care of the problem.

i am using the pcl5 and i was just trying to print 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I really wanted a dual tray printer and alot of people like the hp printers so i got one off of ebay and I will be a nervous wreck if i get a closing at the last minute and this thing takes for ever to print. Anyone have a hp that doesn't do this pausing in between pages and is a good printer. My mom has a hp printer that has the same problem. So I didn't know if it could be the type of cable I am using between printer and computer.

Sounds like memory overrun
The 4050t ships with only 8MB of memory. Some pages, especially 'full' ones, will take a lot more memory to render than others. So the printer tells the computer that some of the data already collected and rendered needs to be spooled to disk. This communication between the printer and PC causes everything to slow down. If the printer had enough memory to fully render the page, then it would print much faster since there would be no communication transmissions during the page rendering and printing.

I ditched my HP printer for that reason. No matter what--more memory, drivers, firmware, etc. there were unexplained delays and I couldn't maintain the kind of speed I need in this biz. I've gone to Brother printers (currently HL-5240) and I never have a problem. I avoided that brand in the beginning because I had heard it was expensive to replace drums. The drums are not expensive. I know others love HP printers, but I didn't have good luck with those.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have the same issue with my HP4250tn--supposedly an excellent printer--45 ppm--but this is a mystery! I have a tech for my machine and we have tried it seems like just about everything. I just wanted to let you know, it is not the memory, we tried that, so don't go buying some just for this problem. HELP!!! its so sooooooo annoying!! One of the things that makes it so difficult is that it is inconsistent--sometimes it does beautifully other times not. I really hope someone else as had this problem and solved it!!! TIA

I have two HP 4100 printers & one of them hesitates, as described in the posts, & the other does not and this is on the same set of emailed documents. Both have the same settings, as far as I can tell, in the Printer Properties menus as well as additional memory & I have been unable to figure it out. Boy, is it annoying!

What I found is that these printers "think". We download the file to our computer, and then it downloads again into the printer. With these large text files, the printer spends a long time "thinking about it" before starting to print. I just couldn't deal with that. The tech people could not get it resolved.

I also have a HP 4050 dual tray printer and know of the problem you described. Fortunately, it has only happened a few times since I bought the machine about 3 years ago. I always thought the issue was related to the way the documents were being sent to me so I would just switch over to two other single tray printers I have hooked up (one letter - one legal). I would go back to the HP 4050 when the next assignment came in and the problem would be gone. Based on the responses you received thus far I would seem that there isn't a solid answer to correct the problem so I would suggest you have your Brothers printer at the ready for when this happens again.

hp printers
When I got my new laptop which has the latest windows operatinging system, I will get some that do that.
When I use the old laptop with the older windows operating system, the problem seems to go away.

You always need to install drivers that are compatible with the operating system. You can usually get those on HP's website. BTW, some of the older printers will not run well with the new o/s.

I have a HP2015dn dual tray with 288 RAM. Sometimes it pauses but usually it does not. Two years ago I received a lot of business from FINITi and their packages printed very slowly. They made me late for appointments. My tech & I could not resolve the problem. I thouht it was the way the docs were scanned. I still have the problem with a pause before printing with some services but I feel it must be the way the docs are scanned.

Re: hp printers I have the answer
I to had the same problem and it drove me crazy. It seems that the printer has trouble "reading" certain files. The printer works fine on one file then the next it is slow. For me it started with higher Adobe versions (8,9). I have never had it happen with swiftview. Anyway the answer is this. When your print screen comes up click on the Advanced button and then check on "print as image"...works for me. Have not had an issue since I cannot tell the difference in print quality thought they say there might be. And it might be very slightly slower but obviously MUCH better than print one page and wait. I am not sure where I stumbled upon the answer. It was either Adobe or HP's (I have an HP) website

Re: hp printers I have the answer
Try printing in draft mode. Sometimes the docs are scanned at a very high resolution and this slows the printer down. I use Lexmark T640 with 3 trays for my work and it doesn't slow down at all. On older printers they will slow down when working with very high resolution docs.

Re:this might help
I had this problem when I had my printer hooked into a hubman. However, when I have my printer hooked directly into my laptop it eliminated the problem completely. you might try that if you have your printer hooked into some sort of auxiliary device.
