Incompetent schedulers

Just got the craziest call from a well-known lowball SS - transcript below. Apparently they are now trying to save $ on their staff as well. However, I believe in treating everyone politely - every once in a while even the lowballers are desparate and will meet my terms. (Note that the no-payers also get the polite treatment but the response is "I'm sorry, I can't work with you due to your payment history."

Them: Can you do a signing in [city] tonight at 6:30 pm? [Note it's already 5 pm]

Me: Is it e-docs?

Them: No, its [name of title company]

Me: But is it e-docs?

Them: No, it says documents shipped to signing agent.

Me: OK, but since you haven't hired me yet, I don't see how you are going to ship them to me in the next hour and a half.

Them: (confused muttering)

Me: Why don't you call me back when you know more about the job?

[End of call. A couple minutes later....]

Them: Them: Can you do a signing in [city] tonight at 6:30 pm?

Me: Is it e-docs?

Them: No, the borrowers have the documents.

Me: Is it a refinance?

Them: It's a [name of title company].

Me: But is it a refinance or what kind of signing is it?

Them: [Confused muttering, then lengthy silence.]

Me: Hello?

New voice [original person apparently gave up]: It's a HELOC, just a small package

Me: OK, my fee will be $XX

New voice: Even though it's a small package?

Me: Yes, that is my minimum fee to go anywhere

New voice: OK, I'll have to get that approved....

Them: Can you do an e-signing in [city] on [date]?

Me: Is it e-docs?

Them: What?

Me: Are docs being sent via email?

Them: Just a minute. [hold music]

Different voice: Can you do an e-signing in [city] on [date]?

Me: Is it e-docs?

Dv: No; you have to have a wireless modem and a laptop.

Me: Are you sure that's legal in Connecticut?

Dv: Just a minute. [hold music, click, dialtone ]

Sharon......sounds to me like you got the scheduling team located in Columbia......and I don't mean Columbia, South Carolina either. A very well known title company told me that they are out sourcing some of their scheduling to Columbia.

I'd say you handled that quite professionally!

What's the name of the SS?

You have to love it when they say "Its just a small package"! My experience has been that one of two things come in small packages...Big things or Big Problems!! Don't settle for less, stand up for what you charge because everything changes when you physically receive the docs and there is no going back.
