CSS standards adopted by SPW have begun

Email from NATCO (North American Title Company) includes "North American Title will ONLY currently accept vendor background checks that comply with the Certified Signing Specialist standard adopted by the Signing Professionals Workgroup." See below:

Dear NATC Approved Notary,

Effective December 1, 2013, all notaries conducting signings for us will be required to have a current background check, renewed every 12 months, on file with North American Title Company or with the signing service company. If a notary does not have a current background check on file on or before December 1, 2013, they will no longer be allowed to perform signing/notary services for our Company.

North American Title will ONLY currently accept vendor background checks that comply with the Certified Signing Specialist standard adopted by the Signing Professionals Workgroup. You can find the list of standards at signingprofessionalsworkgroup.org under Background Screening Standards. Individual notaries can obtain this certification through the NNA (National Notary Association). Other background check vendor acceptance will be based upon the lender’s specific requirements.

Individual Notaries: If you have previously had a background check done by the NNA or from a vendor meeting the certification standards, please forward that certificate to [e-mail address] . We will verify this information and note you as an approved notary. This option only applies to Northern California offices.

Notary Servicing Companies: Any notary company that has been approved by NATC must agree to require a current background check for all notaries who will provide services to North American Title Company PRIOR to scheduling the signing appointment. When requested you will need to provide proof that each notary or independent contractor you utilize has been background checked by either submitting the NNA certification or having the background checked through “The Source” or “Sterling Info Systems”. You will also need to return the attached Background Certification to [e-mail address] along with an updated notary application. If you are not able to comply, your company will be removed from our approved notary company list.

All: If you have not submitted your insurance declarations page to us within the last 12 months, please do so now to keep your approved status current.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Doug Aunkst via email at [e-mail address]

North American Title Company is not responsible for the payment of fees associated with the background check nor is required to accept other background check vendor’s reports. Compliance with this requirement does not guarantee use of your services in the future.

Sincerely,

North American Title Company

NOBODY get it from XYZ

Perhaps if we ALL don't patronize them, they will realize they did all that "marketing" for nothing.

Re: NOBODY get it from XYZ

That would be great, but we all know that not everyone on this forum with comply, not to mention that there are thousands of mobile notaries that don't even know that Notary Rotary exists. :-(

I thought this was interesting

They adamantly will not pay for BCG, won't accept from another vendor, and may or may not offer you a way to afford their demanded requirements. They just want our info in their files.

Thanks Lynn What I read for the first time is hiring parties

are being required to do something beside making phone calls. (Notary Serving Companies....). I guess this is going increase their operating cost and......force them to lower their fee offering so they can hire another family member.

Another thing, the notaries who farm out signings are really being put on the spot!

Updated notary application also required.

"You will also need to return the attached Background Certification to [e-mail address] along with an updated notary application. If you are not able to comply, your company will be removed from our approved notary company list."

Re: Let's hope SS/TCs don't start requesting

the cert from XYZ like they do BGC now.
