California NNA and SPW cancer
Talked to one of my Florida SS's today and was told my Lexis_Nexis (expires 1-2-2014) was no longer valid because it was over a year old. I thought, here we go again so I responded " OK, I will get a Notary Rotary back ground check" Their response was "Great, send it to us but we will continue to do business pending receipt". How business should be.
It appears to me the California cancer (NNA and SPW) is not spreading like they think or would like. Please all, don't over-react. Every dollar you send to NNA is a dollar in their Lobbyist pockets, not yours.

The NNA is using scare tactics. I have yet to see in writing where the banks say they are mandating this. I have seen nothing from Secretary of State for California which issued my notary commission saying this is a requirement.

Thank You! Exactly my point.

" I have seen nothing from Secretary of State for California which issued my notary commission saying this is a requirement."
And you won't - because it's addressing something that the SOS has nothing to do with - a "signing agent" -
The SOS gets involved with notaries - has nothing to do with the NNA agenda.

This is a monopoly for the NNA and Sterling. I am going to consult an attorney as I feel pressured by the NNA & SPW that if we don't comply it will affect my ability to make a living. I am an independent contractor and these mandates don't allow me to make my own business decision but instead are dictating how I run and do business.

Go for it. I posted earlier that I think someone needs to
start a class-action suit. Some attorney would have a field day with this one, and could probably make a lot of money with it.

This has nothing to do with California...
It's the result of a private company working with other private companies who think they are making NATIONAL standards to fulfill FEDERAL law. Just because one is headquartered in California means zip. They have zero regulatory control, despite what they try to make people think.
Besides, under CA labor law, these so-called "standards" are totally bogus. They cannot exercise that kind of control and still call us independent contractors.
Trust me... CA notaries dislike the NNA/SPW right now just as much as notaries elsewhere.

Unfortunately the NNA and it's stepchild SPW are based in California.

Yes, but what does that have to do with California?
So, they're headquartered here...big whoop. They have a nationwide audience.

Re: Yes, but what does that have to do with California?
I've only heard from marginal California signing services regarding this. The rest of my customers nationwide could care less about NNA and something called SPW. They just want me to do my job. That's the point of my post, if you would bother to read it. FLORIDA DOESN'T CARE!!!

I understand, Marian. It's taken a lot of people a long
time to see through their agenda. While I can't say it's CA's fault, it seems that most of the problem cos. I've ever dealt with came from there. CA was also where so much of the bad mortgage stuff came from. I'm sure it's just coincidental, but it is a fact.

It would impact the Az economy dearly since
CA PAYS AZ to keep prisoners for the state.

My thought exactly!!
Also, it just happens that roughly 20% of the whole nation happens to be located here. So it stands to reason that lots of other business and activity of all kinds will be located here, as well. Conflating the NNA and SPW with the entire state where they just happen to be located is like saying that people with brown eyes commit more crimes. It's an absolutely meaningless association.

Not only that...but CA has the LOWEST
number of notaries per capita in the entire country. So associating a private company to a state with the lowest number of notaries per capita doesn't make much sense.
Blame CA for a lot of things... (a lot!) but not this.

Sorry, I have nothing against California. It's a wonderful state and I lived there for 35 years. Again, sorry if I attached NNA and SPW with California. It is a nationwide cancer.

Yeah...the strange thing is
hunting zombies in FL is a class 2 misdemeanor “likely to provoke physical retaliation”.
Man, dinner's calling. Been fun!
