Every business has one
I was a travel agent for over 20 years and we had an organization like NNA. It was ASTA, American Society of Travel Agents. Their main occupation was to hand out unwanted, uninformed advice and collect money.

That reminded me of an article I read some time back about the American Medical Association:
http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2011/06/ama-decline-doctors-care.html
Ignore some of the specific political references in the article itself - that's fairly irrelevant. The point being that they only represent about 20-30% of US doctors, and it's declining.
BUT... how many lay people, non medical professionals know this?
As another example... let's take the BBB. How many consumers out there think they are a government agency? How many think they are effective at resolving business complaints? The reality is that the BB is completely useless to anyone but its' own members.
