Mind your peas and Qs
My motto be professional all the time every time because you never know who is watching you! That point was proven to me again on a closing yesterday!
This was a re-do from Mon with 2 attys and their business partners..I checked the IDs and filled out my journal had them sign it..(not required in Oh). We start signing..About 15 pages in one of the Attys asks why I haven't given the oath yet? I tell him none of the documents have required it yet but that they are coming up next. I give the oath when I get to the first doc that requires it..
The 2nd atty asks me "When did you get your commission?" I give him the date and then he asks me "Did you take my class?" I tell him when I took my test there wasn't any classes..He said well we don't really have a class (I know one of my pet peeves) but I give a speech to scare all of the people waiting to take the test..Then he tells me he's the Notary Commissioner for my county( There are a few and I didnt recognize his name). I said really and told him that I would really love to talk to him!!
During the rest of the closing he was talking about notary stuff and told me that they do prosecute notaries! Great I reply..He said the most offenses are notaries notarizing car titles without the signer being present! (No suprises there)! I tell him that I hear a lot of horror stories and that I wish we could sit down together and talk..We finish up..He stands up extends his hand..Thanks me for doing a very professional job and that he was impressed!!
Whew..So always do you very best..Never know who we run in to..It was a good closing!

Very nice! In OH can you do witness acknowledgments? For example, in Louisiana for car titles if a notary isn't there then one of the witnesses watching the buyer sign can bring the title to a notary and swear an affidavit that he witnessed the buyer sign.

I conduct all my signings as though in a Title Company’s office, for the State Attorney General, and the Secretary of State. [I did one for the Colorado Attorney General ! ]

Bravo!
Just goes to show, if someone shows up at your door (on a rainy night) TREAT HIM/HER RIGHT - as Royalty may be in sight (except if you live in NY- and a great many other places)

Is so true we never know who is showing up or who is watching us .I read in one of the companies paper that after we do a closing they will call back the borrowers and ask them things like, how were we dressed ,were we polite and professional ect, so we are watched actually and they will request feedback on how things went during signing.

Re: WTG Claudine. Great job
Great job, but sounds like another attorney throwing his or their weight around trying to act like they are earning their money at the closing, especially in front of the client. They were probably a little perturbed you were there in the first place, if not, more $$ in their pockets to do the closing. It has happened to me at attorney closings before...not all are jerks, but some act to be.

Re: Three cheers, Claudine. I
Ok..I know the topic should have said"Ps" & "Q"s but I was rushing out the door. Lol
In Ohio we cannot use a witness for the car Titles..Signers must be present on all things..Unless its a POA.
Both Attys were the borrowers..No body was throwing their weight around it was all very pleasant! One of the business partners was a little snotty oh well..But other than that I have seen a lot worse!
