Question to Tony Negrete:
Because we all know and respect the name Negrete, none of us asked what representation and role you hope to provide. It’s obvious from the reaction on the board that Negrete’s has the overwhelming support of the members, but what are you volunteering to do for the notary community, and as a nonvoting member, what do you hope to accomplish? What is your vision? If the mandate for membership, certification course and background check was mandated by the bankers association, the true employer of our entire industry, how can we avoid participation?
What do you envision your role with the SPW/NNA to be in the immediate and distant future?
Will Negrete’s ultimately become a certified trainer for the SPW?
This is personal opinion, and I can only speak for myself. When I received my first commission, I couldn’t wait to sign up with the XYZ---I thought it was required, loved their logo and thought the XYZ logo added to a professional appearance to a business card. Because of the greed of the organization and the number of products I had to purchase to buy the business card, I backed away, didn't purchase the cards and have not since been a member.
After the antitrust lawsuit, I have to admit that I threw up a little bit in the back of my throat at the mention of the organization’s name.
Now, after their participation and creation of the SPW, we’re all behaving as wharf rats looking for a ticket on any ship that can sail. Heck, I’d take a ticket on the Titanic right now.
It appears that the new ‘Code of Conduct’ was mandated by the Mortgage Banker’s Association, and the XYZ took advantage of the opportunity make $$ and corral notaries who resist membership and refuse to purchase their fictions ‘signing agent’ course.
Okay, now I’m beyond the little bit of vomit in my throat and need an industrial-size barf bag.

Well, we’re all looking for that same loophole now.
