SPW, huh?
Everyone seems to be crying about SPW this, NNA that, BGC this... Funny, but none of the title companies I work for have mentioned, nor do they know anything about this. Must be just the low ball companies pushing this...

There was a article in the online tax newsletter that the IRS and State of NY (and several other states) are teaming up to find misclassified Independent Contractor's. If the SPW would cause someone to be classified as an employee, the NNA and title companies are best not pursing the issue at this time.

I don't have any TC's mentioning it, but I have had a few requests from $125+ paying SS companies that are passing along "the email" as a requirement. I have refused the requests and also now placed those SS's on my "Must Pre-Pay" list in order to even consider accepting any future work from them since they too appear to be shilling for the NNA through their actions.
Not only are they, the NNA and SPW, pushing for "certified" signing agents, they also seem to be pushing the average fee for service * down * verses what normally happens in the free market with providers that are "certified" verses the ones that are not. This is one reason I am not "certified". Why pay for the "privilege" of having the for-profit (I don't care what their official designation is - they are in it for the money) organization that is "certifying" you also be the same organization that is destroying your potential to earn a decent income for your services?
I have had one of the SS companies that has expressed some concern with the specific request after I refused and explained my reasons. That company is one that I am willing to continue working with, without moving them to the prepaying status.
