Thoughts about the SPW standards

Maybe I missed it, but is there anything in their standards that require the hiring party to actually pay the notary (now known as a Certified Signing Specialists) for services rendered in a timely fashion?

They're telling notaries what they must do, but no one seems to be telling the hiring parties what THEY must do. Just another example of why the xyz is not serving the interests of notaries...

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this - I didn't have the time to go through the whole thing, so maybe maybe hiring party responsibilities were buried somewhere...

You are absolutely correct...matter of fact

There's even a 'point' made in their Code of Conduct that whatever we quote is what we live with. No re-negotiation of fee when that 'small pkg' they claimed turns out to be 200 pages or the 'no faxbacks' doc package comes with a long list of faxbacks. Too bad, notary, re-negotiation or refusal to perform (turn it back because it's a loser) is not allowed.

Total BS about NO re-negotiation......

try calling a plumber or electrician and having the job be more labor intensive than expected. YOU will pay more....period. We need to stand our ground.....we are INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS not employees. WE set our fees ! I

Re: You are absolutely correct...matter of fact

Of all the items on their list, this one is probably the most flagrant, imo. Could this be an Achilles heel of their very one-sided "standards"? Not only would this be considered unfair to anyone who understands the realities of our work, I can't imagine it being enforceable - as if there was any legal authority to this whole effort to begin with.

and also the workgroup. Folks, contact them! This workgroup does have "contact us". I hope everyone will climb on board & send them your thoughts. Please don't limit yourselves to sounding-off here. If this workgroup wants to limit the NSA's options, they are going to have to look at the whole picture of what "facts" we are presented with during the hiring party's contact to us. Once again, the weak point in the process is not only the SS but any hiring party by virtue of what facts they have about the loan before they call a NSA.

BTW... there are a LOT of notaries, not just here who are really pushing back at this, many of them long-time members/cheerleader fans of you know who. On their Facebook page, it seems almost 90% of the comments about this are negative.

As Judge Judy would say "this is a contract issue and what are the terms of your contract?"
