Re: think “call centers” ... dozens of 24/7 online notaries. SMH

"I don't know of anyone who wants to be trained, wants to do this, pay the setup costs and take the liability for it all, and then making a recording and keeping it the 5 years or so."

I think those start-up and long-term costs are good reasons that RON isn't likely to be practical for notaries to do from home.

"I don't think there is enough business for notary call centers (telemarketers come to mind)."

I think that will depend on whether or not lenders or tc's get on board. If the lenders want to go that route, the tc's will follow. Plus, I think lots of NSAs would be surprised at how much notary work gets done outside of RE related documents. I agree with Robert that the most likely business model to survive are call centers, where the operator can take advantage of economies of scale, including hiring a full time tech person (or dept.) to handle all those requirements.

Another major factor will be whether or not more than a handful of small states here and there prohibit acceptance of remotely notarized documents. If not, then it's just a matter of marketing. Unlike us, their reach could be nationwide, not restricted to driving distance. So far, it seems to me that the proponents are making steady progress. Frown
