As my username suggests, I am not a notary; I just created an account hoping for advice. My husband and I recently took my father-in-law's general power of attorney document (signed in 2018) to the bank for account access. Their legal team determined the document was not notarized in accordance with the laws of the state in which it was signed (Nevada). They recommended contacting the notary to fix the document. I haven't been able to find contact information for the notary anywhere online. Do you recommend any databases or another course of action? My father-in-law was committed to a locked facility as his Parkinson's dementia has progressed, and we don't live in the same state. I imagine hunting down this notary would be easier than getting a new document drawn up and signed? We're under a bit of a time crunch as the memory care facility he lives in has asked us to take over his finances, because he has twice refused to pay for his monthly expenses there & has been writing random checks that don't make sense. |
