 What is a "witness closing" (snapdocs)?

I occasionally get pushes for something called a "witness closing" via snapdocs. What kind of job is that exactly? Are they just asking for a notary to show up and witness the signing? (a local notary friend does that often, but it's because she has a friend who is a title agent and asks her to do it, she didn't seek out such arrangements.) Or is it, as I fear it might be, a signing where they expect the notary to show up with a witness in tow?
