My brother is a CA contractor. One of his clients tried to go after him for a roof leak, but my brother did not install the roof. His work was framing, drywall, tile, and window installation. The owner wanted him to pay $60K for costs to correct the leak at the flashing.

The owner contacted bro's bond company and after a pretty lengthy investigation, site inspection, and conversations with the owner, the bonding company deliberated that bro was not responsible for any of the damage as a result of the work performed.

My brother was instructed to not have any conversation with the owner making the claim and to direct everything to bonding company.

That's what we pay them for.
