I brought up his tax returns to point to the fact that he is not the great businessman you seem to think he is. He's either a loser or a cheat - take your choice.
What's so brilliant about selling something that doesn't exist to gullible people? That doesn't make him a successful businessman, it makes him a successful con artist. Is this what you would consider to be a role model for those looking for a career in business?
Did he do anything illegal? Not that we know of, but then again all he did was license his face and his name - he made a percentage of the original sale. The "cards" were produced and sold by another company, which MAY have done something illegal - there are reports that several of the images are copyright violations that they just pasted Trump's face on. As for what they're actually worth - the numbers you're seeing tossed around are based on the current value of the crypto-currency used to sell them, not on what they sold for. If you sell something for $99, and the value of the underlying currency later triples, you still sold it for $99. Assuming you didn't immediately cash out and instead left your crypto in whatever currency exchange you are using, any profit you see above that is due to an increase in the value of the currency, not the asset. The value of the asset is what someone else is willing to pay you for it.
