"Let's see now. There is an active shooting scene, and you have a weapon. Now, the cops show up and see you with a weapon. The cops have no idea that you are retaliating against the real idiot. All they see is you armed and firing. Do you think that possibly, just maybe you could be mistaken for the perp?"
Exactly.
So what was the purpose of bringing the weapon in the first place other than to show off the fact that you have a gun? Your machismo could get you killed, either by the cops or by the bad guy.
And it should be noted again that in Dallas, NONE of these "proud" gun owners engaged with the bad guy - they ALL ran away when the police showed up.
This is the problem with open carry laws and the NRA's concept of "a good guy with a gun". When the police show up they have no idea who the bad guy is because everyone has a gun, so how do they know who they need to engage with? There's a reason why virtually every police chief in the country is opposed to open carry- it makes their job more difficult. |
