I used to do a lot of closings with the huge population of Ukranian immigrants in central CA. It was always a tossup if the husbands could even make a right thumb print (a CA journal requirement), owing to the absence of half or more of their right thumb. After a few of them wagged in my face what was left of their thumb, nothing suitable for a print, I started to observe if they even had one when they were signing my journal. If not, I just silently sighed and asked for a fingerprint. Didn't go through the contortions to see if they had a left thumb. Could never figure out what happened to all those thumbs and, frankly, I don't want to know. These guys were all pretty scary, but their wives were absolutely delightful. Go figure. |
