What is the Proper way to handle 3 weeks off....m

I'm having surgery next week and I will be off work for about 3 weeks. I was wondering what is the right thing to do to handle calls for signings during that time. Should I tell them in advance? Should I tell them I'm booked? Out of town? Or having surgery?
