As far as the XYZ (we refer to them here that way for legal reasons too) is concerned, I do wish someone would file a class action suit against them for misleading people & taking their money. You might be just the right person to get that started. You've learned an important lesson about them early on & have learned not to trust their info.
I wish you well in your search for attorneys to work with in your state. As far as I know, there's nothing to prevent you for doing general notary work.
