I recommend some careful research before sinking any money into a shredder. Apparently, most economical shredders are designed to handle the needs of the average person with a few pages here and there, not the high volume that we occasionally need, which can burn out the motor. Also, to keep from jamming, you may need to use fewer pages at a time than what it says it can do. I've gone through a number of shredders in the past, so I won't buy a cheap one again.
I, too, have a resource to get shredding for free, so I can't recommend anything specific. However, the last time I saw a shredder on sale at Costco, I looked up reviews on that model and found it rated very poorly. Don't remember which brand it was, though. (Be sure to do your own review checking.) Fellows is supposed to be a quality brand, so that might be a good place to start.
