I think you have a point about many notaries not getting paid for what they do, but that's on them, as they don't have to accept work at those rates. If you continue to read this forum (and even search the archives) you'll see numerous posts over many years warning newbies not to accept the low fees many signing services offer - and why some of them might even be losing money that way.

So, no, we aren't all getting undercut for all we do. Many of us only accept work for which we are fairly (sometimes generously) compensated. We've done our homework, we know what our expenses are and what kinds of fees we need to receive in order to make a reasonable profit. That's what it means to be in business - as we all are, whether we realize it or not.

Those of us being paid fairly for this work have also put forth the time and effort to learn our craft and to market our services. Those are two tasks that never end. Some of us also have years of experience under our belts - including Lee/AR, who's one of the most experienced on this forum... So we're professionals whom our clients know they can depend on to get the work done right (sometimes saving the deal because of errors we pick up on), and they are willing to pay us accordingly.

Organizing, in various ways, has been suggested - and even tried - among our ranks a number of times over the past couple of decades and hasn't worked. At one time, it even got on the radar of the FTC and was shot down.

So you'd be much better off spending your time in upping your game and becoming a professional, learning to market yourself, and saying 'no' to those who won't pay a respectable fee (or those you have to chase after to get paid). You might also want to study up on some of the advice given by some of the others who have posted here (learn to use the Search feature), rather than trying to give them advice. Just sayin'... Wink
