I agree with Bear900. The TV story and the DA office press release don't get down to the nitty gritty. Exactly who was deceived, and how? Apparently real estate brokers were involved, possibly innocently. Since it's a cash deal, perhaps there was no lawyer or title company. I wonder just how much responsibility a real estate agent would feel to verify the deal is legit? Maybe they're used to the lawyers, lenders, and title companies taking care of that and they're not used to playing the verification role.
Certainly we shouldn't imagine the jargon understood on this forum, such as RON, RIN and IPEN are understood by DAs or TV reporters. |
