I bet the person who has title to the car isn't even dead. The car is probably stolen and the vehicle ID# replaced with a fake.
The only thing I would have done differently is in regards to the attorney.
Attorneys are clueless about notary law ... and a lot of other things. I know because I worked with them for 20 years.
I doubt the attorney intended for anything illegal to happen. The attorney who referred you probably just knows your reputation as a problem solver and a top notary.
So I would have called the attorney and thanked him for the referral. I wouldn't have mentioned anything about the situation - no need to educate him and he'd resent a lecture. I just would have thanked him to reward him for referring someone to me.
Simple behavior modification. Dog training methods work well with attorneys. |
