The other way around. Women were first allowed to run the Dipsea in 1971, the year I ran the race. The comparison I made to members of the WCR (Women's Council of Realtors, with whom I was a board member at the time) was that for the first 20 years of NAR's existence women were not allowed there either. The triumph is they are now the majority of realtors. I believe this was around 2010 when business was just down the tubes and everyone in the business was struggling. I was illustrating the difficulties of surviving the industry during that time with the strenuous effort of surviving the Dipsea run. They loved it!
