Hysterical July 2020 month end
By  Cheryl Elliott on 7/27/20 9:08am

Crazy busy, my phone rang off the hook. I was booked solid on Saturday, but the phone rang incessantly and I finally had to say no, no, no.

In the midst of all this craziness, I had a client call asking if I could notarize a statement that his ex-wife was giving him full custody of his daughter, could I meet with him to notarize her signature. I don't think so, sir, you need to petition the court for full custody. NO CAN DO if he wants it to be legal!

The best loan I signed on Saturday was for an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan came home to marry his sweetheart nurse, they bought a house 10 years ago and just refi'd to 2.25%. Made my heart happy to see them saving so much money.

I'm either signing nurses, school teachers, engineers, doctors, lawyers, people who are blessed to still have jobs. Every file has more forms addressing indemnity/hold harmless for title and lender and a statement of non-forbearance situations with existing lenders.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting in some of the most beautiful gardens, performing my work in the shade of a pergola, shade tree or umbrella. Heck, I hope not to return to indoor signings!

Every borrower I meet with tells me how painful it was to get their loan processed due to the numbers of people trying to refinance while rates are so low. One title company has over 60,000 loans in process, trying to get all the conditions for funding resolved. The big hiccup is a verification of employment.

I got to catch my breath yesterday, enjoyed the beautiful coastal weather and social distanced dinner with friends. Back at it today...it's going to be brutal.

Declining numbers of CA notaries this month
By  Cheryl Elliott on 7/27/20 8:50am

I wonder, are many notaries moving out of CA and giving up their commissions, opting not to perform notary work during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Numbers dropped from March around 160,000 to 156,000+/- this morning.

How to make more than $50 per loan signing
By Luckydog on 7/27/20 7:43am

First email of the AM when signing on this AM to the infamous XYZ bulletin. The XYZ touting their main contributor Mark Willis.
Hmmm, did it occur to XYZ and Mark Willis they are the factor of these $50.00 signings being offered? How about stop spitting out so many NSA's every month flooding our industry driving wages offered lowered and promising them 6 figure incomes when the reality starting out is less than minimum wage.
The truth can go a long way where, yet one gets rich off selling their program and mentoring more than 4,000 Notary Signing Agents (at $35.00 per month on FB on reference from a person I know still paying him) and the other gets rich off of trying to certify as many NSA's as they can. Neither one of those entities cares about $50.00 loan signings being offered, only what they make off your back way before you even get that far. This is just a lifeline to throw you so you don't give up on what they are selling you on.

Live Notaries, LLC
By Susan Parnell on 7/26/20 4:41pm

Anyone have experience or knowledge of a company called LIVE NOTARIES, LLC?

Got a request for a nearby appointment, they are offering to pay by Venmo since I had not worked with them before and didn't see any reviews here on NR. Can't really find much about them online either. Supposedly they are a nationwide signing service. Phone # 844-327-6658.

Thanks! - Sue

I refer to them as a Black Cloud over the notary signing biz
By  Cheryl Elliott on 7/26/20 1:08pm

They are completely disrespectful of the very community that makes their loans happen!

I never hear from them any more since I told them to bug off. They do not pay timely. They pay themselves very timely and stiff notaries.

Take assignments at your own risk!!!Be prepared to wait up to 6 months for payment and that is after aggressive collection attempts.

COVID
By Jake Draper on 7/26/20 1:26am

I've recently had 3 jobs in which the signer has either had COVID, had a pending test or had a spouse that was extremely sick.
I decided to turn the job down, in talking to a few of the companies, they said "the safety of our notaries is our most important concern, we are going to turn away this job and tell the Title company we can't do it"
I have a friend that is a also a notary, called them to warn them. Literally 3 minutes after my call, they received the job offer.
Notaries be diligent in asking singers questions! Don't rely on signing companies to screen for you.

Warning for all Notaries
By  Ernest__CT on 7/24/20 7:37pm

If you are faced with a (potential) signer who cannot produce valid identification according to your state's Notary Public laws, WALK AWAY.

Some companies (mentioning no names here!) may attempt to talk you in to having the signer sign all the documents _including those which require notarizations_ and tell you that you don't have to notarize those docs which have a notarial block. DON'T DO IT!!!

Some unscrupulous companies will have one of their in-house Notaries _fraudulently_ notarize the signature even though the signer and Notary never met nor did the Notary see the signer's identification.

Have someone sign a document which is supposed to be notarized when the Notary physically present cannot, by law, notarize the signature is _encouraging fraud._ JUST DON'T DO IT.

Warning for CT Notaries!
By  Ernest__CT on 7/24/20 7:27pm

If you get a call for a structured settlement for a Neil N. in Norwich, CT, be aware that he cannot produce identification that is acceptable under Connecticut law! Today he produced a non-driver's ID that had expired in 2019.

The contact phone number which was provided (ending in 3168) belongs to his son. No messages could be left because "... the voice mailbox is full". The son apologized repeatedly for not having set up voicemail.

There will be another Post warning about having someone sign a form when you cannot notarize the signature. Please read it to keep yourself out of trouble.

Die if you don't, die if you do, wearing face masks toxic
By  Cheryl Elliott on 7/24/20 4:10pm

I was having dinner last night with a couple of my LO buddies, and we all agreed that face masks are annoying, can be blind sighting, and uncomfortable. As well, we are breathing in our own carbon monoxide. How good is that for us?

This is a good article from CDC regarding masking.

Be concerned? Post-signing claim
By Kellosh/CA on 7/24/20 2:12pm

Well, you live long enough...

Did a signing earlier this month for an immigrant couple. English was a second language for both, but I was able to easily communicate with them both in person on the phone. They were actually very cordial, even brought me a bottle of water (we signed in a school parking lot) and went out of their way to help me set up my folding table. If I had been unable to communicate with them, I wouldn't have done the signing for obvious reasons.

Got a call a few days back from the Title agent. The couple is now trying to get out of their loan using the claim that they only speak Chinese and they didn't understand what they were signing and were unable to communicate at all with me. This is so bizarre, I don't even know if I should laugh it off or consult with a lawyer. I do have in my favor with this title company a few signings over the past 15 years where I refused to sign on site due to communication issues (twice because the signers only spoke Spanish and I do not and once because one member of an elderly couple clearly didn't even know who she let alone what she was signing.) Opinions?

Beware of Fake Masks (outrageous claims Or no such item at all).

http://www.bbb.org/article/news-releases/21482-scam-alert-preparing-for-coronavirus-that-face-mask-could-be-a-con

Vulnerable while virtual shopping Or in cheap China outlets/venues. VIGILANCE needed.

BBB is reporting complaints & scams galore. Stimulus $$. Home work "opportunities." From bogus Contact Tracing to malware threats, fake government calls . . .

(Getting more unsolicited "official" calls. Illegal activity under my SSN and such.)

Stay safe All.

Posting here because we are using hand sanitizers
By Luckydog on 7/23/20 12:37pm

http://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-updates-hand-sanitizers-methanol

75 hand sanatizers under recal that can kill you are create serious injury.

The list of hand sanitizers recalled for containing a toxic wood alcohol keeps growing, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has listed even more. Now there's one that has produced sanitizers from small bottles, gallon jugs and even tanks.

The latest culprit, like so many others, is made and bottled in Mexico. The company called Licquesa Exportacion distributes the product called Optimus Instant Hand Sanitizer, which can be purchased in 8.5-ounce bottles to gallon-size, 55-gallon drums and by the 275-gallon tank-load.

All of them are labeled with a green and white label, and the product was distributed throughout the United States.

Commercial eDocs (too many files)
By NVLSlady/VA on 7/22/20 8:46pm

Those accustomed to SBA loans or perhaps commercial signings: Do the electronic files come in separately?
I have a request to print forty (40) pdf's, which I declined. From an attorney for a nice fee, BUT . . .

(I don't have the Adobe Combine feature and certainly would not merge all these online).
