I renewed my license online last year here in TX, and when it arrived it had the RealID star. I got my TX license by turning over my NY license shortly after moving here - never provided any additional documents or information other than my NY license, so whatever NY had over the 40 or so years I had a license there was fine with TX.

Different states do different things, I guess.
