As with many things for me...

My experience living in China gives me a LOT of pause over any sort of federally mandated ID requirements. In China, their national ID card is leveraged as a way of punishing people who go against the party line. There is a reason why so many people resist the notion of being forced to carry federal ID cards, and one such reason is how it can be leveraged against the citizen.

But this isn't the politics board, so I will stop myself and finish with this: The Founding Fathers were very wise people. They designed our Constitution with a lot of extremely deliberate reasoning. They provided provisions for freedom of movement for exactly the reasons I described above.

I have to will myself to stop before this turns into a rant.
