 Great Business 101 advice Yoli & Janet!
Posted by Moneyman/TX on 12/2/19 10:54am

My list also includes your list, Yoli (#1-13) plus a few other items;

13) Additional thoughts -- "Your time" should include prep time (scheduling, emails, downloading, printing, etc.), travel time (round trip), time at the table, post signing time (review of docs, invoicing, & dropping docs for shipping), AND last, but not least, what YOU believe YOU ARE WORTH -- the charge for what YOU bring to the table (your personal knowledge, skills, professionalism, etc.);

14) A %, or a set minimum $ amount, of every job should be set aside for advertisement & promotion of your business;

15) Office expenses (% of electricity bill, % of/for rent - even if using space in home, cost of internet, etc.) ---- basically just an expansion on #3-6

16) Fees vary depending upon payment terms.
* Cash at signing = Level 1 fee schedule
* Billing with NET 15 payment terms = Level 2 fee schedule
* Billing with NET 30 payment terms = Level 3 fee schedule
* Billing with payment received longer than 30 days = NOT MY TARGET MARKET; I'LL PASS

When you know your numbers, you will find it easier to to tell SS and title schedules what YOUR FEE is for the jobs they are requesting. Don't fall for the "We only pay $..." or the "We only get paid X" lines from the low-ballers.

Not knowing your what your numbers tell you the minimum amount you must charge, depending on the type of signing request, will lead you down the similar road as Kmart. Too many of those "Blue Light Specials" (selling below cost) helped them go from having 2,486 locations globally to a whopping 70 total U.S. locations by 2020. Know your worth and charge accordingly!
