Effectiveness and quality probably varies greatly by area, but I've been using Google Maps on my cell phone exclusively for probably years now. That app should work with pretty much any phone that can handle apps, and I think likely has the most current data. I have an old Garmin, as well, but I can't remember the last time I even bothered turning it on.
I don't have it running in the background all day, so it hasn't been an issue for battery life for my phone at all. That WILL vary greatly from one phone to the next, though. Newer phones have better, longer lasting batteries and probably operate more efficiently. I'm currently using a Samsung Note 9, and a charge can last me all day. Everyone's situation is a bit different, so I suggest just trying different things and see what works for you. |
