Re: My 2 Cents on RON

I applaud Negrete's advice to look at the effect on the industry.

Today, in many areas, for-profit in-person notarizations are available from mobile notaries, UPS stores, etc. It's also seen as an essential service that is provided as a perk by banks, or at various government offices.

If RON takes off, it might get to the point that for-profit in-person assistance is no longer profitable and disappears. Perhaps the banks and government offices will also see a drop-off in demand and discontinue the service. Getting an in-person notarization may become as difficult as dialing "0" on your phone or paying your electric bill in cash in person.

If in-person notarization becomes unavailable, I am concerned about the people the RON industry is choosing not to serve, such as people in their teens, people who have trouble getting a driver license or non-driver ID card, people who are not US citizens, or people who lack access to high tech.
