Paying attention to detail is major

I had a signing the other day for a gentleman refi'ing his home. He is retired, and he told me he and his long-time girlfriend/significant other and recently married after a 34-year relationship. During COVID19, they felt it was a wise thing to do. Their separate children are scattered across the continent and one in Europe, making it difficult for them to act in their behalves in emergencies, life and death, etc.

The deed of trust read UNMARRIED MAN as vesting. His application said he was married.

We signed everything, it was CINCO DE MAYO, and it was in the evening. I emailed the hiring party to let them know we needed an interspousal agreement signed by spouse so that this could be recorded along with the Deed of Trust. They were going to check with the lender to see exactly how spouse's name would appear on the Interspousal Deed.

Not something everyone would catch, right? Hopefully, I will receive that today and meet with the couple so that the loan can close timely.

But that's simply one thing that can go unnoticed.

Email from a signing service recently disclosed that errors are more frequent and numerous these days and causing SS's a lot of issues with their clients. To name a few...

Because with the slowdown of work inevitably comes a slew of complaints. We have had multiple complaints daily for the past month.

Documents not printed on the appropriate size paper.
Documents are being cut off.
Signatures and dates missed.
Notarizations missed.
ID not returned in packages.
Notaries being excessively late for closings > than 30 minutes.
Closing times changed without approval.
Scans are not being done.
Packages are not being dropped promptly.
Funds are not being collected.
Instructions are not being followed.
Mistakes are not being corrected.

Sign of the times, I guess. Good help is hard to find.
