I agree with shooterclay.
I've bought tires from Costco, and I know for a fact that the tires they sell are the exact same as those sold at other outlets - because I've checked.
If your argument is that they sell the less expensive tires the manufacturer makes, that's one thing (and I'm not even sure that's true). Or if you just don't like the brands they carry, I can understand that also.
But to suggest that these chain stores actually dictate to the manufacturers the specifications of the tires they will sell so that they produce a cheaper product - we need to see some proof of that because it just doesn't make any sense. Why would a nationally known tire manufacturer be willing to hurt their brand by deliberately producing an inferior tire?
The "clubs" have a lot of leeway as far as packaging demands for the products they sell - where else can you buy a 50-gallon drum of mayonnaise? - but they don't dictate the quality of the products they sell. |
