"I mean regulations for simplifying packages for elderly signers by getting rid of what is commonly called "junk docs" around the forums (for example)."
That's not gonna happen. As Luckydog said above, it would be discriminatory to say that people above a certain age don't need to sign "junk docs". If they don't need to sign them, why should anyone else?
As Luckydog also said, you as the signing agent need to be able to walk them through the docs. You need to know what the doc is and be able to explain it to them in simple terms, but not what it means for them if they sign or don't sign; that would be UPL. Your job is to get everything signed, period. If they find that overwhelming because it's a large package, take a break occasionally. Does that extend your time at the table? Yes, but sometimes that can't be avoided.
I recall a signing I did for an elderly couple, and the husband was really nervous because they were putting the property into a trust and their children didn't know about it. At one point he was shaking so bad that he couldn't sign his name - so we took a break and just sat and talked for a bit until he calmed down. The signing took twice as long as it should have, but it got done, I didn't pressure them, and they were happy. |
