I was really bored and watched a video for a signing service (Unlimited Ink) and its affiliate Notarystars.com., based in Arizona.
I could not belive my eyes. In order to get signing opportunites, the owner mandated that notaries be
1) Notary2Pro graduates, 2) Pay $300 per year for a premium listing 3) Have a mobile scanner in their car ( in 118 degree Arizona summer heat) 4) have a mobile printer in their car 5) Enroll and pay for annual continuing education from Notary Stars
Then he encouraged notaries to accept $65 signing opportunities from Notary Go. " It is a great opportunity" Unlimited Ink has a relationship with Notary Go. Notary Go pays the SS $90 and the SS pays the notary $65 maximum no matter how large the package. There is no negotiation. Period.
Then it got worse. The video gave a demonstration of what items a mobile notary should carry in their car ( in addition to a mobile scanner and mobile printer). The back of the car looked like a Mini-Office Depot. It had everything. Letter size paper. Legal size paper. An extra tray for the legal paper. A table cloth in case the borrower's dining room table was dusty. A special pen in case the signer had Parkinson's disease. An extra toner and drum. Every type of office supply possible was in the back of the car.
Any notary that is so stupid as to follow the above mandates should be banned from the business. Who wants to print documents in 118 degree Arizona summer heat? ( I would not do it in a 65 degree temperature) How could tbe notary be trusted to conduct an intelligent signing?
I think he made decent money off the backs of newbies the past few years. I don't know how he got away with it. With the precipitous drop in refi's, I think his business model will suffer significantly and he will become a lot more humble.
