Here's an excellent example from post above: "...mobile notaries do not have any marketable skills..."
If people see themselves that way, then grapebed's dire assessment may be right. But I couldn't disagree more with that assumption. Your perspective on the world around you, often called 'framing', is critical. There's a popular quote that goes something like this: "Change how you see the world and your world changes."
Think about it... As an NSA, you are a business owner, solely responsible for your business's timely execution of contracted work, marketing, bookkeeping, supply acquisition, scheduling, customer service, accounts receivable, etc., etc. This business requires tremendous people skills, attention to detail, flexibility, determination, time management, etc., etc., etc.
If you've survived off of this business for any length of time, you did that without the need of supervision or oversight, so you're a solution-oriented, self-motivated, self-starter, maybe goal oriented and more. Those skills are transferable and probably harder to acquire or train someone on than whatever it is that the job itself requires you to do.
What manager wouldn't want to hire someone like that?!! Folks, don't sell yourselves short outside of the notary business, either, whether you're looking for a part time gig or a full time position.
"Change how you see the world and your world changes..."
