Just now received email from ServiceLink as follows:
"Greetings California Signing Agents, We have recently been informed of a ring of individuals who are actively seeking to take out mortgages by stealing identities. These individuals have fraudulent ID’s and the signings typically take place at a location of convenience outside of the property location – i.e., local coffee shops, restaurants, etc. Law enforcement is involved and investigating. That being said, we would like to take a moment to remind everyone of the acceptable ID options within your state. Ensuring the ID is valid and that the signer is who they say they are is one of the things you can do to help stop fraud. Please bear in mind these fraudulent IDs may be hard to spot so please be vigilant by paying close attention to the name, appearance of the individual, and signatures on both the ID and the documentation. Please keep an eye out for anything that looks “off” and use your best judgment and instincts. For additional information, please see the below excerpt from the CA Notary Handbook:"
They then post the ID requirements per California Handbook.
