Any assignment I consider takes into account not only the type of signing (purchase, HELOC, seller, etc.), any special instructions (Spanish, scan backs, etc.) and size of package, but also distance to signing location, driving conditions to signing location. Regardless of how offer comes through -- in a person-to-person phone call or a group blast -- if their offer is too low, I'll counter offer. If we can come to an agreement, fine! Let's do business! If not, thanks for keeping me in mind.
I don't mind driving 100 miles (one way) for a signing. In fact when I get a call for a long distance signing, one of the first things I ask the caller is if s/he realizes there's a distance involved. Once that's established, we then proceed to all the other particulars. My fee will reflect all services being requested/offered.
